berghaus, literally the German translation of 'Mountain House', are an outdoor clothing and accessories manufacturer that was founded in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK in 1996 by Peter Lockey and Gordon Davidson, both experienced climbers and mountaineers who were frustrated by the lack of quality outdoor products. Their initial range was of high quality, innovative and inspired by what climbers actually wanted and needed and they have been innovating ever since including, in 1977, being the first European outdoor brand to use the new waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX fabric in some of its products.
